Membership Criteria

In brief to qualify for membership, you must have completed the following or equivalent of:

  • An honours degree in Osteopathy (minimum 4 years full time, or 5-6 years part-time)

  • 1000 hours supervised clinical tuition

  • In addition to the above, satisfy the Osteopathic Council that you are fit and proper to be admitted to membership of the Osteopathic Council of Ireland (i.e. that you have the skills, knowledge, character and health to practise safely and effectively).

Insurance

We require all members to have full professional indemnity insurance equivalent to at least €3 million. Your insurance must cover you for work in the Republic of Ireland.

Applicants should wait for the OCI to approve provisional membership before taking out their professional indemnity insurance policy.

First Aid

We require all members to have a current first aid certificate. We require a ‘basic’ or ’emergency’ first aid level or higher.

First aid certification can be obtained in any country. If you wish to attend a course in Ireland, there are many options. The OCI run courses every second year, through Pulse Medical, click here.

Child Protection

All applicants are required to have hold a current Child Protection training certificate. This training is specific to Irish child protection laws and protocol, an overseas qualification can unfortunately not be accepted . We recommend the Tulsa online course, click here.

Payment

If you wish to pay buy standing order, please contact the administrator on info@osteopathy.ie for details. All standing order payments must be received by the end of the calendar year.

** All standing orders must contain your name as a payment reference so that we are able to track your payment. Any un-narrated payments will incur a €40 admin fee. **

New Graduates

New Graduate membership is only available to prospective members who have graduated within the last 12 months.

*Please note that those osteopaths who completed a shorter programme of study, and are currently members of another competent authority register, may still qualify for full membership without any further conditions. Please be encouraged to complete the form.
