Richard Doran-Sherlock
Richard Doran-Sherlock qualified from Swansea University with an Integrated Master’s Degree in Osteopathy in 2020. Prior to this, he had qualified from Trinity College Dublin with a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Science, and had worked in the Environmental sector. Following his experience of recovering from chronic injuries, he became passionate about the application of pain science to musculoskeletal issues, and to empowering people to take charge of their pain. Richard has worked in an NHS pain and injury clinic, with a personal training company, and in private practice as an osteopath. He has worked with everyone from world-record holding athletes, professional dancers and musicians, to amateur sports participants and people who have experienced disability arising from pain. His research interests include:
- Psychological factors in pain
- Strength, conditioning and movement based rehab
- Chronic pain management
- Environmental impacts on pain and mental health
- Management of hypermobility syndromes (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder)
- Cognitive Functional Therapy
Richard has trained in various movement practices such as martial arts, yoga, weight training, etc. As fitness isn’t a one-size-fits-all standard and should reflect individual goals and values, his personal training focuses on maintaining his ability to engage with the great outdoors. Richard is an advocate for environmental restoration and rewilding as a means of improving the quality and amount of outdoor space and rich habitats for their attendant health and environmental benefits, and has undertaken peer-reviewed research and written articles about how nature engagement may be integrated into clinical practice. He is the first osteopath to have joined the International Environmental Physiotherapy Association. Richard is a member in good standing of the General Osteopathic Council (UK) and The Osteopathic Council of Ireland.
